Wexford Literary Festival 2018 was launched last night in Enniscorthy Castle, by renowned playwright, novelist and songwriter, Billy Roche. Speakers were Carmel Harrington Chair Wexford Literary Festival, Keith Doyle, Chair of Enniscorthy Municipal District and Denis Collins, Poet.
It was a special evening for all at #WexLitFest HQ, because there was lots of exciting news to share – not least of which the fact that our festival has made it to a big milestone – our fifth birthday!
Every year, we’ve evolved and grown, but always at our heart retained our mission to be a vibrant event that connects, inspires and informs writers and readers of all ages.
With great pleasure, we announced that a further two awards have been renamed to honour home-grown greats – Billy Roche and Eileen Gray.

The team has worked hard to ensure that once again Festival2018, which will be held 2-4Nov is a friendly, fun celebration of books and writers. Our biggest event yet!
We’ll open the festival on Friday 2 November, in the Presentation Centre, for the Billy Roche Short Play Award. Our four shortlisted short plays will be performed by Enniscorthy Drama Group.
On Saturday we have a packed Readers and Writers Day in Riverside Park Hotel, with panel discussions, workshops and the return of A Date with an agent, where writers will have the opportunity to pitch their manuscripts. Speakers on the day include:
Paul Williams, Andrew Cartmel, Jane Casey, Sinead Gleeson, June Caldwell, Hazel Gaynor, Catherine Ryan Howard, Paul Perry, Carmel Harrington, Shane Dunphy, Dr. Sarah Cleary, Caroline Busher.
In Presentation Arts Centre, our children’s and family event takes place, where the winning entries of the Children’s Book Trailer Award will be presented with their crystal and certificates. A fun and interactive talk for our younger readers and family will also be given by children authors ER Murray and Caroline Busher.
On Saturday evening, we return to Enniscorthy Castle for our Candlelit evening, with Teacup Gin Cocktails. Carmel Harrington will be in conversation with Liz Nugent.
On Sunday afternoon, it’s Awards Day at The Athenaeum, where our shortlisted writers will find out who the winners are of our short story, poetry and window display awards.
